According to a new report from Digitimes, Apple will start production of the fifth-generation iPad in July or August of this year, according to sources with Taiwan-based supply chain.
“Volume production of the fifth-generation iPad will kick off in July-August 2013,” Max Wang and Joseph Tsai report for Digitimes. “Yield rates for key components, especially touch panels, will be a major concern for smooth production.”

Previous reports suggest that the fifth-generation iPad will sport a similar design to the iPad mini. That is, it will be thinner, lighter and feature a slimmer bezel design. Today’s report from Digitimes confirms that this is still the case.

Displays for the 5th generation iPad is expected to be supplied by LG Display and Sharp. The touch panel assembly will be done by TPK and the ITO thin-film supplied by Nitto Denko and Teijin, according to the report.
