The Wall Street Journal along with other news outlet are reporting that new HTC One smartphone has been delayed due to problems in sourcing camera components and metal casings for the device.
“HTC Corp. is pushing back the rollout of its new flagship smartphone due in part to some component shortages, a setback for the Taiwanese smartphone maker which is banking on the HTC One to turn around its flagging sales,” Lorraine Luk reports. “Several retail distributors and telecom operators including Vodafone Group PLC said HTC has notified them of shipment delays of the new smartphone.”
HTC executives reported the delay in shipments to shortages of components including metal casings and camera parts, according to the report.
“We…are working tirelessly with all of our channel partners to ensure that we can fulfill as many orders as possible,” said HTC Chief Marketing Officer Benjamin Ho in a statement. “We will start fulfilling pre-orders by the end of March in certain markets and will roll out to more markets as we approach April.”
In other news, Digitimes is reporting that the latest report from Taiwan is that the pre-order of the new HTC One is off to a great start.
According to the report:
Pre-sale orders received by Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) for the new HTC One have hit a new record in Taiwan, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) quoted Jack Tong, HTC vice president for North Asia, as indicating. HTC has been ramping up its production of the new HTC One and will see tangible results in April, Tong was quoted as saying.
In addition to cooperating with CHT to promote retail sales in the local market, HTC is also enhancing its marketing efforts with plans to set up a total 330 experimental shops and 53 large-scale exclusive stores for HTC products in Taiwan in 2013, Tong indicated.
