Slashgear is reporting that the team behind the Pebble smartwatch has confirmed that it will commence shipping today.
According to the Pebble website:
Pebble is the first watch built for the 21st century. It’s infinitely customizable, with beautiful downloadable watchfaces and useful internet-connected apps. Pebble connects to iPhone and Android smartphones using Bluetooth, alerting you with a silent vibration to incoming calls, emails and messages. While designing Pebble, we strove to create a minimalist yet fashionable product that seamlessly blends into everyday life.
Slashgear is reporting that the Pebble’s current production status stands at 800 to 1,000 units per day with the team initially focusing on the black finish. However, it is expected that production will eventually reach 2,400 units per day.
The Pebble team the iOS app for the Pebble watch is still going through Apple’s approvals process, a delay in which means iPhone owners will only have limited functionality at first, according to the report
According to Slashgear the team had this to say about the delay in an email to backers:
We submitted [the iOS app] 2 weeks ago and have been responding to reviewer feedback. For the moment, iOS users who receive Pebble early will be able to do notifications/Music control but will not be able to install watchfaces or upgrade to the latest PebbleOS until the app appears in the App Store.
