Sony Discussed PS4, Shows Off DualShock 4 and PlayStation 4 Eye

Sony has announced the PlayStation 4 without the ‘actual’ console being unveiled. However, the company did discuss what consumers can expect from Sony’s next generation machine.

According to CNET, the PlayStation 4 is set to come with the following features:

  • An eight-core X86 AMD “Jaguar” CPU and a 1.84 Teraflop AMD Radeon graphics engine (with “18 compute units”) form the central processing on the PS4.
  • 8GB of fast GDDR5 memory. The PS4 will use a hard drive for storage versus an SSD.
  • Immediacy of response reducing lag time while accessing content is also one of the promised PS4 features.
  • The PS4 will allow speedy background downloading, and  playable as they’re being downloaded.
  • A Blu-ray drive that can also play DVDs
  • The PS4 will also have three USB 3.0 ports, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI, Analog AV-out, and optical digital audio output.
  • PlayStation 3 backward-compatibility on the PS4, but potential future PlayStation 1 and PS 2 retro gaming as well via a PlayStation Cloud Service.

Other features include, more social gaming via the new “Share” button on the PS4 controller. It will allow players to hand over control of your game to people remotely. The PlayStation Store will also include a digital download of all titles. The PlayStation 4 will be coming with a new DualShock 4 controller. The new controller features a new sensitive six-axis sensor, a touch pad located on the front of the controller and a light bar on the top with three color LEDs that illuminate in various colors.

Other features include:

  • It will come with a built-in speaker and stereo headset jack, enabling PS4 users to enjoy high-fidelity sound effects of games from both the TV and from the controller.
  • A newly equipped “SHARE button” to further enhance PS4’s social capabilities. The “SHARE button” allows gamers to easily broadcast their gameplay in real-time to friends through internet streaming services such as Ustream
  • Additionally, gamers can charge DUALSHOCK®4 while PS4 is on standby or through a dedicated charging station.

Another peripheral for the PlayStation 4 will be the PlayStation®4 Eye.

According to Sony, “the PlayStation 4 Eye is a newly developed camera for PS4 incorporates two high-sensitive cameras that have wide-angle lenses with 85-degree diagonal angle views which can recognize the depth of space precisely.”

The PlayStation 4 Eye will allow users to login to their PS4 with face recognition and are capable of using their own body movements or voices to enjoy games more intuitively.
