There have been lots of reports about the vase potential of the Apple TV as a gaming device. However, no company has been able to turn the Apple TV into a true gaming device until now.
Rolocule Games has announced Rolomotion, “a technology that precisely track various movements of iPhone and allows users to play games using natural motion gestures on television using iPhone and Apple TV.”
Motion Tennis, the first Rolomotion-powered game, will be released on the App Store in May with limited beta invites going out in the last week of April to those signing up here starting today.
According to the press release:
Unlike other motion gaming consoles, there is no need for extra sensory and gaming hardware as Rlomotion converts iPhone or iPod Touch into a motion controller. The first Rolomotion-powered game – Motion Tennis – stream to a high definition secondary display on your HD TV using AirPlay mirroring and also significantly reduces the mirroring lag with in-game optimizations. Instead of playing on your iPhone, you can now play with the iPhone. Moreover, since the game is always on your iPhone, you can play it on any Apple TV anywhere as opposed to dedicated gaming consoles, on which if you want to play your favorite games at your friend’s place, then you either need to download the games on their consoles or carry the games CD/DVD with you.
“We are thrilled to announce Rolomotion and we think the customers are going to love the experience of motion gaming using iPhone and Apple TV. Motion Tennis is just a start of many more exciting games we have in the pipeline” said Rohit Gupta, Founder & CEO of Rolocule Games. “We have always been fascinated by the potential of the Apple TV and gaming and I think Rolomotion is our first step in that direction. More than anything, customers may not need to buy dedicated motion gaming console anymore.”
“The game will work on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod Touch (5th generation) using Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation). Apple TV requires an 802.11b/g/n wireless network or Ethernet network and a high definition TV capable of 720p,” according to the press report.
