MacBook shipments to grow 10% in 2Q13
According to a new report from Digitimes, Apple is expected to see 10% sequential growth in MacBook shipments in the third quarter, according to upstream supply sources.
“Apple’s MacBook shipments in the third quarter are expected to grow 10% sequentially as the company has almost finished digesting its excess inventory and should start placing new orders in mid-May,” Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report. “The orders in May are expected to be mainly Haswell-based models.”
Apple’s recent earnings results for the second quarter shows that Mac PC sales were flat compared to the second quarter last year.
The report also highlights that upstream suppliers have not received instructions from Apple for major modifications over industrial designs or equipment for its MacBook Pro and iMac, which suggest that Apple’s product upgrades in 2013 will mainly focus on specifications. Given that the iMac hardware has been redesigned last year, there is no surprise here.
