Hon Hai Precision Expands Production Capacity for Mid-2013 Launch of Apple iTV

According to a report from China Times, Hon Hai Precision aim to expand their production capacity  in order to gain orders from Apple. These expansions are mainly to build the Apple iTV, which is set to launch in mid 2013 according to the report.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. / Foxconn, chairman Terry Gou is apparently looking to further expand the company’s operation scale in the US, China and Taiwan to win orders from Apple Inc.  Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd is set to invest approximately CNY 5 billion in Nanning, Guangxi Province, to expand its manufacturing capacity. The company is also hoping to establish plants for Apple in Silicon Valley.

The reported highlighted that Terry Gou is hoping that his strong relationship with Apple’s CEO Tim Cook will ensure his company secure the deal to produce Apple’s iTV.

In terms of the progress of the Apple iTV project, the report states that Hon Hai has assigned a special iTV development team to work in its office in Neihu, Taiwan. According to the report, the relevant components for  Apple’s iTV have been produced and an announcement will be made “in mid-2013 when Apple completes the integration of its content platform.”
