A Gartner report – Forecast: Mobile Advertising, Worldwide, 2009-2016, predicts that the worldwide mobile advertisement market is set for strong growth in the next three years. With revenue from global mobile advertising growing roughly 400% between 2011 and 2016.
According to the report, “Mobile advertising should be integrated into advertisers’ overall marketing campaigns in order to target their audience in very specific ways through their smartphones and/or tablets.”
The report also highlighted that, annual global revenue from mobile advertising will increase from US$9.6bn in 2012 to US$11.4bn in 2013,. In 2016, Gartner is predicting that the revenue from mobile advertisement will reach US$24.5bn, creating new opportunities for the likes of Google and Apple.
“The mobile advertising market took off even faster than we expected due to an increased uptake in smartphones and tablets, as well as the merger of consumer behaviours on computers and mobile devices,” said Stephanie Baghdassarian, research director at Gartner. “Growth in mobile advertising comes in part at the expense of print formats, especially local newspapers, which currently face much lower ad yields as a result of mobile publishing initiatives.”
The above table highlighted that while the Asia/Pacific region will continue to lead in mobile advertising, followed closely by North America. The report suggest that, high smartphone adoption in countries such as Japan, South Korea, China and India are expected fueled mobile advertising growth in future.
