Digitimes is reporting that suppliers for the next-generation iPhone are getting ready to start shipping components in May.
“Components for the next-generation iPhone will start shipping at the end of May with the new smartphone to have a chance of showing up in the third quarter, according to sources from the upstream supply chain,” Aaron Lee, Ninelu Tu and Joseph Tsai report for Digitimes. ” The new iPhone will not receive a major upgrade and may just be a slightly enhanced version of iPhone 5 (iPhone 5S).”
The information came from sources within the industry. Apple is also set to release a budget-iPhone model using plastic chassis to push its global smartphone market share, according to the report.
On the other hand, the iPhone 5S is set to feature a higher-end processor, higher-megapixel camera modules and fingerprint sensor, according to various reports.
Foxconn Electronics, premier manufacturer of iOS devices, is expected to see a boost in their revenue around this period.
“With the orders, related component makers are expected to enjoy around 30% sequential growth in the second quarter,” Aaron Lee, Ninelu Tu and Joseph Tsai write. “Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) chairman Terry Guo previously noted that the company’s performance will start picking up after April or May.”
It’s now a case of wait and see what exactly comes out of Cupertino.
