Apple: iPhone 5 Revealed

Here are some of the key features of the new iPhone 5

  • The iPhone 5 is a glass and aluminium at 7.6mm it’s a full 18 percent thinner than the 4S. It’s even a full 20 percent lighter at 112 grams.
  • It’s has  4-inch display. The new Retina panel is 1136 x 640, which clocks in at a more than respectable 326 ppi.  ratio puts the iPhone 5 display closer to 16:9.
  • It also sports better color saturation with full sRGB rendering.
  • That new longer screen allows for an extra set of icons to be displayed on the home screen, The iWork suite, Garage Band and iMovie have all been updated.
  • Older apps will still work too, though they’ll be displayed in a letterbox format until an update is issued. The tweaked  but it’s not quite there.
  • The iPhone 5 has LTE. There’s still HSPA+, EV-DO, EDGE.
  • The  iPhone’s support for LTE, in the US, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will all offer it; in Canada, Bell, Rogers, Telus, Fido, Virgin Mobile, and Koodo are on board. In Europe, the UK  (EE network) and Germany will have it through T-Mobile. In Asia, Apple has announced Japan’s SoftBank and KDDI, Korea’s SKT and KT, Hong Kong’s SmarTone, and Singapore’s SingTel.
  • The iPhone 5’s processor has been upgraded to Apple’s A6 SoC, which Apple suggests will result in double the CPU performance and two times faster graphics. The improvements result in Pages loading up 2.1x faster than before, and Keynote attachments hitting the screen 1.7x faster.
  • The iPhone 5 and its brand new TKTK iSight camera. The iPhone 4S’ camera was considered to be the best in class when it launched last year, and the new camera on the iPhone 5 is no different. Where the iPhone 4S camera featured a f/2.4 aperture, five-element lens and backside illuminated sensor, the camera on the iPhone 5 has a smaller, but similar camera.
  • The new connector is called Lightning. So we have Thunderbolt and Lightning. All digital, 8-signal design, adaptive interface, improved durability, reversible.
  • September 14th is when preorders start and  shipping on September 21st in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
