Apple has releases update 5.1 for the 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TV. The updates does contain a few hand features but no major UI change compared to that of the previous year.
Some of the key features found in the new update include:
- User can now access multiple iTunes accounts and switch quickly between them.
- Accept invitations for Shared Photo Streams, browse photos and comments, and receive notifications of new content.
- Reorder icons on the second page by holding down the select button on the remote.
Better AirPlay integration and custom network configurations using Apple Configurator
More stand out features include improved AirPlay functionality. Users can now send audio content from Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices. These devices include AirPort Express and other Apple TVs.
TechCrunch is reporting that the update will enable users, “to set up custom network configurations using Apple Configurator, the device management tool Apple offers through the Mac App Store for management of multiple iOS devices across an organization or household.”
According to the report this feature could result in people from Europe using VPNs to gain access US only streaming services such as Hulu and this works the other way. Of course, using VPNs is this manner is deem illegal and could get you into rouble with the authorities.
