3D Rendering of Apple’s Forthcoming Low-Cost iPhone

With schematics of an alleged low-cost iPhone now in the wild, AppleInsider offers a glimpse of what that device might look like as an actual product in this pair of high-quality 3D renderings.

Based on the schematics obtained from blueprints of the low-cost iPhone published earlier in the week, AppleInsider has put together a brilliant 3D render of what the low-cost iPhone design will be.

According to the report:

The speaker and microphone holes on the bottom of the device are circular, and akin to the current iPod touch design. In an interesting marriage of hardware and software, the circular openings are also similar to the new signal indicators in iOS 7.

Like the iPhone 5, the bottom of the rumored low-cost iPhone also includes a Lightning port, with screws to the left and right, as well as a headphone jack.On the left side, the volume controls are pill shaped, like the iPod touch, rather than circular, like the iPhone 5. The back corners of the device are also curved, bearing a resemblance to Apple’s iPod classic.Aside from those tweaks, the anticipated handset is unmistakably an iPhone, featuring the standard home button and a 4-inch display.

The leaked design is slightly thicker than an iPhone 5, and is expected to have a plastic back panel to keep costs down.

The above features of the low-cost iPhone were already touted in a report earlier this year by iLounge.

At the time, this was what  Jeremy Horwitz wrote for iLounge:

….unless something major changes between now and its release, we know pretty much what the new low-end iPhone will look like, thanks to reliable sources. Yes, it will be made substantially from plastic. No, it won’t just be a Retina- and Lightning-equipped refresh of the iPhone 3G or 3GS, Apple’s last plastic iPhones, nor will it look just like an all-plastic version of the iPhone 5. This new model is actually a cross between the iPhone 5, fifth-generation iPod touch, and… wait for it… the iPod classic. Yes, really. It will have a 4” screen, like the iPhone 5, a bottom like the latest iPod touch, and a shape that’s most similar to the iPod classic.

Based on the two reports, it is almost a given that what you see in these renders will become a reality this Fall.
