Digitimes is reporting that shipments of panels used in Apple’s new iPhone 5s are expected to reach between 10-15 million units in the third quarter of 2013. This will be reflected in Apple’s fourth Quarter Earnings report.

According to the report, Sharp, LG Display and Japan Display are expected to be the main suppliers of the panels, with being responsible for seven million units. There was no indication whether Samsung Display will supply panel for the iPhone 5S.

Apple and Samsung has had a very stormy relation of late. And many pundits predict that Apple will be looking to cut the Korean-based company from its supply chain as quickly as possible.

“Apple, Cupertino, Calif.,has cut back on some purchases. It no longer buys iPhone screens from Samsung and has reduced iPad-screen purchases,” the Wall Street Journal report in July. “And Apple has been buying more flash-memory chips—an essential component for storing data—from other makers, say former Apple executives and officials at another chip supplier.”

Furthermore, it is expected that over 20 million panels for the iPhone 5S are expected to be shipped in the fourth quarter of 2013 (this will be reported in Apple’s first Quarter of 2014).

“In terms of the iPhone 5c, Japan Display will land more than half of the panel orders throughout 2013, with Sharp expected to pick up more than half of the remaining portion while LG Display will be responsible for the remaining orders,” Rebecca Kuo and Alex Wolfgram. “Panel orders for the iPhone 5c are expected to surpass 30 million units in the fourth quarter.”

The report also highlights that, “panel shipments for the iPhone 5c are expected to surpass those of the iPhone 5s, showing that Apple is more optimistic about growth in the mid-range handset segment in markets such as China.”
